I project I have working on for a few months now has finished!!!! Woohoo, it's a 2d Traditional/digital 7 minute short film made with a LINK fund from FTI. The director Jesse Emmerson, also known for doing Hairoes last year has handed it over and I feel at ease haha. So here's a drawing of nothing in particular.

I'm pretty excited, started work on a traditional/tradigital short film with some friends this week. It's all very well organised and everyone working on it is very talented so I think I will learn a thing or two! The director Jesse Emmerson created a traditional film last year for the Nick Shorts Initiative and won the best animated short award at the WASAs last year. Check out some more info here http://illusivemotion.com/. The animation is quite character based as well and so i can see how much i can put into the longer scenes.

I might be able to update with a line test at one point =).

So far I'm just trying to get used to the interface, just so I can not think and animate stuff =D. So far I really like the brush tool compared to Flash and it's soooo much easier to be able to clean up drawings. So I should be able to clean this up and colour it in no time. I wish I started with a thinner line but the animation feels good.

Had a good Christmas this year, got to see some sun, do some swimming, eat a whole heap of awesome foods and see most of my relatives again. Got some pretty cool presents as well, mostly to do with my US trip for a month. I got a new camera too and heres a couple of photos I liked. Now its time for New Years times!!!!

3D!! It's like I can touch you!!

So I decided I would have another go at 3D animation and I liked doing the 11 Second club before and so here I go again. So far I quite enjoyed doing the "blocking" stage, I drew poses I wanted on paper and replicated that on the modesl and it was almost just like 2D animation and then it got to moving onto the curves ... and I closed down the program. The curves took ages to start and wouldn't work at all like I hoped but after lots of guessing it started coming together and then I did some blocking of the lip sync which was pretty cool. I'm not going for any extravagent, just focusing on poses ... oh and I found the IK/FK stuff really annoying.

Ill post another update when I've done more.

Simon Allen Pixar Masterclass

Went to the Simon Allen Animation Masterclass today ... hes an animator from Pixar and originally from Perth, he gave us a taste of his animation knowledge in the space of two days. I found it quite inspiring and it will hopefully give me some motivation to get some projects going and practice my 3D animation =).

The music video I worked on for The Scotch of Saint James has been nominated for the West Australian Screen Awards under best music video(thanks Johnny Mac and Ben - Benja Mind Images for letting me work on it). Also one of the Nick Shorts I worked on is nominated for best short animation.

New Toy!

I've been in a bit of a imagination rut for about a year now. Trying to get in the habit of posting more and doing more artwork =D, so heres a start ...

I just got me a new Intuos 4 Wacom and its awesome, so I decided to test it out properly and made this ..

Also trying to make a new film this year, while I have a good job, but will have to look for work after my contract ends =( hopefully I can find some more work in the feild but I don't feel very optimistic about it. Going to try and help a friend with some Special Effects work too, maybe that might lead somewhere also.

Also I have to mention I just got a new job working for Animation Works/Media World as a Trainee animator on the series Dogstar. I am pretty stoked and I have a feeling I am going to learn a lot and hopefully it will be my next step to becoming an animator.

Hey everyone just an update of some links to some of my recent projects. I recently finished off a music video for a local Perth band The Scotch of Saint James, an awesome band check em out. Me, John MacMullan(my digital media lecturer from uni) and Ben Berkhout an awesome Director completed this video over some time, cause we all didnt have much time to work on it but we got it done in the end.

Almost onto the secondary movement now, still lotsa cleanup to do, but I'm pretty proud of what iv got so far. Cant wait till I colour it, should look awesome with the bg too and the other character see how I go. Might just be a rough in the end.

Heres a little thing ill be workin on when I can to just practice all the principles, well try to anyways. So I'll update it as more gets completed, I got the sound clip from animationmeat.com and those are beer jugs on the bar.

I originally just started this blog so I had a place to put my showreel but I thought I mereswell start posting things. So as a start I'll show some walk cycle practices I did in 3Ds Max after I went to Melbourne and saw Simon Allen, an animator from Pixar, which was awesome. I was going to do one with weight as well but havent gotten around to it yet but I did a flour sack practicing weight.
